Oscar movie

Kot came home with a sly smile on his face. “I have a great idea for an Oscar winning movie” – he said. “Boyhood” – he added with a victory smile, beaming like the sun at noon on the equator. I was slightly confused, what was easly visible on my face. “But you know my dear, that this movie already exists?” – I said as softly as possible, not to bring dark clouds. “Of course!! – he said. Our movie will be called Cactushood. Just imagine: we will shoot our cactus for 12 years and Oscar is ours. Isn’t a brilliant idea?” –said proudly Kot. “Aha” – I said and looked at our main character standing on the shelf…

Yep, in 12 years Oscar is ours in category Drama….or Horror

The Sea of worries

Recently I’ve approached a new technique: etching. There is something very magical in the first print. Your heart stops beating for a moment, you can hear your own breath when you lift the paper to see what comes out. Here goes my first plate and first print. The Sea of worries. This was my idea for the first etching work. Recently I’ve heard that in a Jewish tradition sea was a symbol of deep, unknown, scary place filled with evil monsters. Somehow I like this metaphor. Something lurking beneath the surface. From this come image. Worries are like monsters beneath the surface of the sea. Sometimes we are not aware of them, but from time to time they lift their tails cutting water surface letting us know: we are here.

Royalty issue

For me the closeness of the Royal Family is still kind of strange.
I get used to the situation when a King or a Queen is a historical figure or… a character from a fairy tale.
Here on this island past time and fantasy mixed together, and this makes me wonder.
Because if there is the Queen it must be also a dragon somewhere here, no?
If there is a princess, who does her hair?
And what if the other princess is a tomboy?

Dear deer

Sometimes worries surround us like wolves in a dark forest. In moments like that,
I always look for a dear deer, who will stand by my side.
I entered with this project for V&A Illustration Awards 2015. Let’s keep finger crossed.

Dinomouse

Late evening. We sit in the darkened living room watching the second part of Jurassic Park, The Lost World. One dinosaur here, another there…Suddenly we are distracted by a strange shadow, which moves on the kitchen wall.
‘Ohoo, it seams we have our own Jurassic Park at home’-said Kot.
I put my knees closer to my chin and switched off the movie.
This is how we meet our home pet dinomouse.

Imaginary places

When I moved to London few months ago, the underground world was the first place to be explored. All stations names were new, unfamiliar to me, difficult to remember and difficult to pronounce. It caused a lot of stress and frustration, and I don’t like to be stressed. I always was making pronunciation mistakes. So in this case was the same: Instead of saying “Royal Oak”,
I said “Royal Ork”. And it was when…the door to the under underworld was opened. By changing, adding or replacing one letter, I could create entirely new places. And this is how the map of imaginary places based on real tub map was created.
